Cost per cut

Efficiency through transparency

Cutting with a saw is at the beginning of the value-added chain, and benefits can already be gained here. Do you know the real cost of a saw cut?

The costs are not primarily determined by the unit price of the band saw blade or the price of the system. More decisive is the performance of the tool and the machine.

Only what is known can be controlled, therefore AMADA would like to give you the possibility to create a cost estimate with your own data. We would support you on how you can reduce costs on this basis.

Requirements

In order for a sawing process to be economical, the tool and machine must always be suitable and efficient for the application. Simple rules of thumb are sufficient for estimation.

Bandsaw blade width

Economical sawing performance results in high sawing forces, and the band saw blade should be correspondingly strong.

Power

The optimum parameters for each material are different. In order to apply the necessary cutting force at higher blade speeds, a sawing machine requires sufficient drive power.

Tool / Parameter

The highest efficiency is achieved through the use of optimized tools. Even if there are universal tools, tools developed for this purpose achieve higher cutting performance with often better tool life.

The AMADA application service will be happy to advise you on the selection of suitable tools. If you are sawing materials from different material groups, you should orientate yourself on the group in which most cuts occur. You should also proceed in the same way when selecting the teeth.

Always choose a tool according to suitability, never according to the price per band saw blade!

Calculation

To compare the costs per cut for a specific sawing task, you only need a few details. This calculator compares the costs of a saw cut when using two different bandsaw blades. If you only want to calculate the cost of a saw cut, click here.

Basically, the costs per saw cut comprise the costs for the machine, the tool, and for the personnel. The calculation needs some information from you. The data will only be saved for the moment of the calculation and will be transmitted encrypted.

Please note that this calculation is based on some necessary simplifications, we will be happy to support you if you want more precise results.

Please note that we use the comma as a separator for decimal places. Do not use thousands separators.

Machinery and personnel costs usually account for a major part of the cutting costs. If you want to reduce costs in the first step, always use the tool that allows the highest cutting performance. AMADA recommends, for example, the carbide tipped bandsaw blades of the AXCELA series or the bimetall bandsaw blades Magnum HL/HLG with the high performance cutting material M71. In the medium term, a more efficient sawing machine can also reduce your costs.  Please contact our sales team and we will be happy to support you.

(1) Specify here how many hours per week are normally worked with saws in the department (1 shift = 40h, 2 shift = 80 h etc.).

(2) Of course, a rough estimate is sufficient.

(3) Related to the working time in the department with saws
